Bundesliga Roundup, Matchday 12
Matchday 12 of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season featured exciting games and impressive performances. Here is the Bundesliga roundup of the weekend’s events.
St Pauli 3-1 Holstein Kiel
Johannes Eggestein’s two goal contributions aided St. Pauli in achieving their first home victory in the Bundesliga since February 2011, as they triumphed over fellow newly promoted team Holstein Kiel with a score of 3-1. This marked St. Pauli’s first win of the season at the Millerntor-Stadion. On the other hand, Holstein Kiel’s inability to secure their first away win in the Bundesliga keeps them in the bottom two positions.
Werder Bremen 2-2 Stuttgart
Stuttgart managed to equalize twice to secure a 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion. However, Sebastian Hoeneß’s team has not won any of their last four away matches in the Bundesliga. This draw allows Stuttgart to move up to 9th place in the league, while Werder remains in 12th, just 3 spots below Stuttgart, with only a one-point difference between the two teams in the standings.
Union Berlin 1-2 Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen continued their remarkable unbeaten streak on the road in the Bundesliga, now at 23 matches, by defeating Union Berlin 2-1. This loss marked the sixth consecutive game without a win for the home team. Alonso’s squad effectively managed to hold off Union, securing an important victory that propels them into the top three of the Bundesliga. On the other hand, Die Eisernen are left disappointed, as they have now gone eight head-to-head matches without a win and have fallen into the lower half of the standings.
RB Leipzig 1-5 Wolfsburg
RB Leipzig have experienced their first winless streak of five matches since April 2018, following a 5-1 loss to Wolfsburg, who launched a fierce attack in the first half. After establishing a comfortable lead, Wolfsburg eased off on their offensive efforts. Willi Orbán managed to score a late goal for Leipzig, but it was overshadowed by a final goal from Kevin Behrens, who secured the fifth goal for Wolfsburg, who are now in pursuit of Leipzig for a spot in European competition.
Freiburg 3-1 Monchengladbach
Freiburg maintained their unbeaten streak against Borussia Mönchengladbach, now at seven matches (3 wins, 4 draws), following a decisive 3-1 win at the Stade Europa Park, which propelled them to 6th place in the Bundesliga standings.
Augsburg 1-0 Bochum
Augsburg claimed a 1-0 victory over Bochum at the WWK Arena, marking their fourth home win and second draw in the Bundesliga, which has allowed them to earn 14 out of 15 points at home, making it the second-best home performance in the league. Augsburg managed to maintain their lead throughout the remainder of the match, securing three important points that moved them up to 13th place, five points above the relegation play-off zone. On the other hand, Bochum remains at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings, still in search of their first league win of the season.
Dortmund 1-1 Bayern Munich
Jamal Musiala scored an equalizer in the 85th minute, helping Bayern Munich secure a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in the 136th Der Klassiker and keeping their unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga intact. The home fans were anxious when Sané went down after a challenge from Ramy Bensebaini, but a penalty was not given, leading to a draw in yet another exciting match between the two German giants. Bayern maintains a 10-point lead over Dortmund, having now gone eight games without a loss at Signal Iduna Park.
Mainz 2-0 Hoffenheim
Mainz increased their unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga to five matches (3 wins, 2 draws) with a 2-0 win against Hoffenheim, marking Hoffenheim as the team they have defeated the most (15 times) in the league. This victory moves Mainz up to seventh place in the standings, just one point shy of the European spots, while Hoffenheim stays in 14th place, only two points clear of the relegation zone.
Heidenheim 0-4 Frankfurt
Frankfurt closed the gap to four points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich with a dominant 4-0 win over Heidenheim, marking their fourth straight victory in head-to-head matchups. Frankfurt added a fourth goal in stoppage time when substitute Hugo Ekitike scored, contributing to the Eagles’ seventh consecutive win and showcasing their strong performance in both domestic and European competitions. In contrast, Heidenheim remains winless in their last seven league games and finds themselves in the relegation zone.
