Bundesliga Roundup, Matchday 24
Matchday 24 of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season featured exciting games and impressive performances. Here is the Bundesliga roundup of matchday 24.
Stuttgart 1-3 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich celebrated their 125th anniversary by achieving a 3-1 comeback win over Stuttgart. This marked Stuttgart’s third consecutive home loss, a first since February 2022, while Bayern views this victory as evidence of their improvement, especially since they struggled to overcome this challenge during their disappointing 2023/24 season.
Werder Bremen 1-2 Wolfsburg
Patrick Wimmer scored both goals for Wolfsburg in their 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion, extending their unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga to six matches (2 wins, 4 draws). The match concluded without much trouble for the visitors, as Wolfsburg managed to secure three points, bringing them just one point shy of the European qualification positions. On the other hand, despite the loss, Werder Bremen sit in 12th place.
St Pauli 0-2 Dortmund
Dortmund demonstrated their offensive prowess in the second half against St Pauli, achieving a 2-0 win at Millerntor-Stadion and marking their second consecutive Bundesliga victory of the season. Consequently, the visitors, now in 10th place, are just six points away from the top four, while St Pauli stays in 15th position after suffering their fourth straight loss without scoring.
RB Leipzig 1-2 Mainz
Mainz 05 achieved a significant comeback against European competitors RB Leipzig, winning 2-1 and moving up to fourth place in the Bundesliga as they pursue their first UEFA Champions League qualification. On the other hand, Leipzig now faces the challenge of narrowing the gap to the top four, putting additional pressure on their manager Marco Rose.
Heidenheim 0-3 Monchengladbach
Borussia Mönchengladbach achieved their third consecutive away win for the first time since May 2020, defeating struggling Heidenheim 3-0 and maintaining their position in the hunt for European qualification. Gladbach returns to the Rhineland just four points shy of the top four. Meanwhile, Heidenheim remains six points away from safety.
Bochum 0-1 Hoffenheim
Bochum’s streak of three consecutive unbeaten matches in the Bundesliga ended when they lost 1-0 to Hoffenheim at the Ruhrstadion. Hoffenheim will be pleased to have secured their first league win while keeping a clean sheet, as they had not achieved this in their previous 13 top-flight games.
Frankfurt 1-4 Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen extended their record for the longest unbeaten away streak in Bundesliga history to 29 matches with a 4-1 victory over Frankfurt. This loss ended Frankfurt’s four-match unbeaten streak at home and marked the first time they conceded four or more goals in a home league match since last May’s corresponding fixture in the 2023/24 season. Leverkusen needed this win to help close the significant eight-point gap, even though they have only lost once in the league this season. On the other hand, Frankfurt stays in third place.
Union Berlin 0-1 Holstein Kiel
Holstein Kiel broke their streak of 12 away games without a victory by defeating Union Berlin 1-0, with a goal from Armin Gigović in the first half. This win lifted Die Störche off the bottom of the standings. Despite their efforts, Die Eisernen were unable to score, and Kiel successfully secured an important win, bringing their total points to 16, which puts them five points behind 15th-place St. Pauli.
Augsburg 0-0 Freiburg
Despite the score indicating a dull match, the 0-0 Bundesliga draw between Augsburg and Freiburg was filled with action, highlighted by home goalkeeper Finn Dahmen achieving a new club record for the longest time without conceding a goal. Augsburg may feel they missed a chance to stay competitive with the teams vying for European spots, as their inability to secure a win leaves them six points behind the top six.
