Bundesliga Roundup, Matchday 6
Matchday 6 of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season featured exciting games and impressive performances. Here is a Bundesliga roundup of the weekend’s events.
Augsburg 2-1 Monchengladbach
Keven Schlotterbeck and Alexis Claude-Maurice each scored a goal, leading Augsburg to a tough 2-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. This result further deteriorated Die Fohlen’s poor away record against Augsburg, with only one victory in their last 14 encounters. Despite Gerardo Seoane’s team pushing forward in the closing moments, Augsburg’s defense remained strong under pressure, securing their second Bundesliga win of the season and climbing above their rivals into 13th place.
Werder Bremen 0-1 Freiburg
Freiburg has now won six out of their last seven matches against SV Werder Bremen, following a 1-0 victory at the Weserstadion. The visitors managed to control the game comfortably, and this win brings them within two points of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga. On the other hand, Bremen’s struggles continue at home, leaving them still without a win this season on their own ground.
Union Berlin 2-1 Dortmund
Union Berlin has increased their winning streak at the Alte Försterei to four games after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-1. Die Eisernen held their ground and achieved their fourth victory in seven competitive matches under Bo Svensson, moving ahead of Nuri Şahin’s team into a top-six position.
Bochum 1-3 Wolfsburg
Bochum’s winless streak in the Bundesliga has now reached six matches after suffering a 3-1 loss at home to Wolfsburg, who broke their own three-game winless run. Bochum showed promise in the second half and might have equalized under different circumstances, but a late penalty converted by Wind secured all three points for Wolfsburg, allowing them to rise to 12th place. In contrast, Bochum has fallen to the bottom of the table as their troubling start to the season persists.
Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Holstein Kiel
Bayer Leverkusen celebrated the second anniversary of Xabi Alonso’s appointment as manager with a disappointing 2-2 draw against newcomers Holstein Kiel, squandering a two-goal advantage and extending their search for a first clean sheet in the Bundesliga this season. Martin Terrier missed a late header over the Kiel goal, but Kiel managed to secure a valuable point, which may feel like a win given the situation, despite now being the first Bundesliga debutant in 13 years to remain winless in their first six matches.
St Pauli 0-3 Mainz
Mainz continued their perfect record against St. Pauli with a 3-0 victory in the Bundesliga, extending their remarkable unbeaten streak to seven away league matches. After suffering defeats in two of their last three league games, Mainz will be pleased to return to winning form, moving up to 10th place in the standings while leaving St. Pauli just above the relegation zone in 15th.
Heidenheim 0-1 RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig has maintained the longest active unbeaten streak among top-tier teams in Germany by narrowly defeating Heidenheim 1-0 at the Voith-Arena, bringing their total to 17 consecutive Bundesliga matches without a loss (11 wins, 6 draws). Frank Schmidt’s team is the only Bundesliga club that Leipzig has a perfect record against in the top division, as the home side has not secured a victory in their head-to-head matchups at home since March 2015.
Eintracht Frankfurt 3-3 Bayern Munich
Omar Marmoush scored a last-minute equalizer in the 94th minute, allowing Eintracht Frankfurt to come back twice and secure a 3-3 draw against Bayern Munich at Deutsche Bank Park. This result extended Frankfurt’s unbeaten streak to seven games in all competitions. However, they had to endure a tense moment when Müller hit the post just before the end, which means Bayern has now gone three matches without a win in all competitions.
Stuttgart 1-1 Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim was just moments away from achieving their third away win in their last 15 Bundesliga matches, but they had to settle for a draw after Ermedin Demirović converted a penalty in stoppage time, resulting in a 1-1 tie with VfB Stuttgart. This penalty was the final action of the match, allowing Stuttgart to maintain their impressive streak of scoring in 23 consecutive Bundesliga games, earning a point that leaves them two points shy of European qualification. On the other hand, Hoffenheim stays in 16th place after losing two crucial points in a heartbreaking manner.
