Ligue 1 Roundup, Matchday 10
The tenth matchday of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season has just wrapped up, featuring exciting games and impressive performances. Here is the Ligue 1 Roundup from the weekend.
Monaco 0-1 Angers
Angers dramatically broke their streak of 19 away Ligue 1 matches without a win by securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Monaco, who experienced back-to-back league losses for the first time since June 2023. This win allowed Dujeux’s team to achieve their second league victory of the season, moving them up to 15th place and ending a seven-match losing streak against Monaco. On the other hand, Hütter faced defeat in his 50th match as the host team’s manager, which leaves them six points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Lille 1-1 Lyon
Lille lost the opportunity to secure second place in Ligue 1 when they conceded a last-minute equalizer, resulting in a 1-1 draw with Olympique Lyon. Both teams earned a point, allowing Lille to move up to 4th place and Lyon to 6th in the Ligue 1 standings as the international break draws closer.
PSG 1-0 RC Lens
Paris Saint-Germain increased their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 standings to six points after a narrow 1-0 win against European contenders RC Lens. With Lens failing to pose any significant threat, PSG was largely untroubled in securing their three points. They have now gone unbeaten for 10 matches this season, with few teams in the league appearing to match their current form. Meanwhile, Will Still’s team fell out of the European qualification spots due to a goal difference after the defeat.
Brest 0-1 Nice
OGC Nice achieved consecutive Ligue 1 victories for the first time this season, defeating Stade Brestois 1-0 in a challenging match at the Stade Francis Le Blé. Although Brest controlled majority of the possession in the second half and did not allow the visitors a shot until the last 15 minutes, they were unable to convert their dominance into scoring opportunities. Nice delivered a strong defensive performance, limiting Brest to only speculative attempts. The away team secured all three points, extending their unbeaten streak in the league to six matches (3 wins, 3 draws), while Brest’s five-game unbeaten run came to an end.
St Etienne 2-0 Strasbourg
Saint-Étienne secured their third victory of the Ligue 1 season by defeating RC Strasbourg 2-0, with all their wins occurring at home. With a two-goal lead, Saint-Étienne comfortably managed the last 10 minutes and stoppage time, moving up to 16th place in the standings. On the other hand, Strasbourg has only won two of their last eight league games and will be looking to improve their away performance soon.
Toulouse 1-0 Reims
Toulouse secured a 1-0 win over Reims in Ligue 1 at the Stadium de Toulouse, marking their third consecutive match without a loss (2 wins, 1 draw). The home team achieved their second straight victory, moving up to 12th place in the Ligue 1 standings and creating a two-point cushion between themselves and Saint-Etienne, who are in the relegation playoff zone. On the other hand, Reims missed the chance to advance into the European qualification spots, remaining in eighth place.
Le Havre 1-0 Montpellier
Le Havre will be optimistic that Abdoulaye Touré’s crucial penalty will lead to a resurgence in Ligue 1, as the captain’s goal in the second half secured a 1-0 victory over Montpellier, putting an end to a six-match losing streak. La Paillade, however, could not mount a comeback, remaining at the bottom of the league after experiencing their fifth consecutive defeat for the first time in two years. Meanwhile, Le Havre achieved their first home clean sheet in 10 Ligue 1 matches as they moved closer to safety.
Auxerre 4-0 Rennes
Auxerre achieved their first three consecutive home victories in Ligue 1 since March 2010 by defeating Rennes 4-0, breaking a six-match winless streak against Les Rouges et Noirs. The home team capped off their performance with a fourth goal in stoppage time, courtesy of a brilliant finish from Ado Onaiwu, which enhanced the score line and propelled them to tenth place in the Ligue 1 standings. On the other hand, Rennes continues to struggle, sitting just two points above the automatic relegation zone.
Nantes 1-2 Marseille
Marseille revived their season with a 2-1 victory over Nantes at Stade de la Beaujoire, thanks to a second-half goal from Mason Greenwood, marking his seventh goal of the season. Nantes has now gone seven matches without a win and has not beaten Marseille in their last nine encounters. Meanwhile, Marseille has closed the gap to six points behind PSG, but they realize they cannot afford to lose many more points this season if they hope to challenge PSG’s dominance in the league.
