Ligue 1 Roundup, Matchday 12
Matchday 12 of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season has just wrapped up, featuring exciting matches and impressive performances. Here is the Ligue 1 Roundup from the weekend.
Monaco 3-2 Brest
Maghnes Akliouche scored his second brace in Ligue 1, helping Monaco secure a 3-2 win at home against Stade Brestois. This victory marks their sixth consecutive win in head-to-head encounters. With this win, Monaco remains in second place in the standings, six points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG 3-0 Toulouse
Paris Saint-Germain prepared for an important Champions League game against Bayern Munich this week by defeating Toulouse 3-0, marking their fifth consecutive win in Ligue 1 and halting Toulouse’s three-match winning streak. Toulouse’s victory at the Parc des Princes in May is still PSG’s only home league defeat since September 2023, as they missed the opportunity to achieve three straight away wins. Vitinha’s calm finish in stoppage time confirmed that Toulouse conceded three goals in the capital.
RC Lens 1-3 Marseille
Marseille achieved their sixth win in seven away league games by defeating RC Lens 3-1, marking their first win at Stade Bollaert-Delelis since January 2022. This victory maintains Roberto De Zerbi’s team in third place, while Will Still’s squad now sits in 9th place, six points behind Marseille.
St Etienne 1-0 Montpellier
A remarkable second-half goal from Benjamin Bouchouari secured a 1-0 win for Saint-Étienne against Montpellier Hérault, marking their fourth victory in the last five games at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. Montpellier sits at the bottom of the table with just seven points from 12 matches (2 wins, 1 draw, 9 losses) and is still looking for their first away win of the season, having lost all six of their away games.
Reims 1-1 Lyon
While a 1-1 draw with Lyon didn’t significantly help Reims in their pursuit of European qualification, it did extend their unbeaten home record against Lyon to eight games. Both teams had to accept a point, which aligns with their standings in the league, as Reims finished the match in 8th place and Lyon in 6th.
Lille 1-0 Rennes
Lille maintained their unbeaten head-to-head streak against Rennes, reaching 11 matches, with a tough 1-0 win in Ligue 1 at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Although they remain in fourth place, this win keeps Lille close to the automatic Champions League spots, just one point behind third-placed Marseille. Meanwhile, Rennes is at risk, sitting only one point above the relegation playoff position.
Nantes 0-2 Le Havre
Josué Casimir and Steve Ngoura scored goals on either side of halftime, leading Le Havre to their second victory in nine Ligue 1 matches against fellow relegation battlers Nantes. Antoine Kombouaré sought to spark a surprising comeback by utilizing his substitutes, but ultimately, the Canaries suffered their ninth straight match without a win. An additional disruption from the fans added to Nantes’ frustrations, resulting in a particularly unpleasant conclusion to a disappointing day after an unnecessarily prolonged finish.
Auxerre 1-0 Angers
Hamed Junior’s last-minute goal gave Auxerre a 1-0 victory at home against Angers, marking their fourth straight win in Ligue 1 at home under Christophe Pélissier. As the game seemed destined to end in a draw, Junior scored with a header from Ki-Jana Hoever’s cross in the 92nd minute, earning Auxerre all three points and propelling them into the top 7 of Ligue 1. Meanwhile, Alexandre Dujeux’s Angers fell back into the relegation zone as their four-match unbeaten streak away from home came to a disappointing end in Burgundy.
OGC Nice 2-1 Strasbourg
Abakar Sylla’s own goal in the second half contributed to OGC Nice’s 2-1 win against Strasbourg in Ligue 1, keeping Les Aiglons unbeaten at home this season (3 wins, 5 draws). This marks the first time under Liam Rosenior that Strasbourg has experienced three straight losses, and their poor performance has left the Blue and Whites only three points clear of the relegation zone.
