Serie A Roundup, Matchday 6
The sixth round of the 2024/25 Serie A season featured exciting matches, unexpected outcomes, and outstanding player performances. Here’s a recap of the weekend’s games.
AC Milan 3-0 Lecce
AC Milan bounced back from a rocky beginning to achieve their third straight Serie A win, defeating Lecce 3-0 at the San Siro. Fonseca’s team managed to handle the final moments of the game comfortably, but the night was marred by a red card shown to Davide Bartesaghi on his first-team debut for a tackle on Banda. This incident did not impact the match result, as Milan temporarily climbed to third place, while Lecce dropped to 18th.
Udinese 2-3 Inter
Lautaro Martínez netted his first Serie A goals of the season, leading Inter Milan to a 3-2 victory over Udinese and propelling them to fourth place on the table. This win marked the Nerazzurri’s fourth consecutive victory against Udinese. After suffering a 3-0 defeat to AS Roma last weekend, Kosta Runjaić has faced his first consecutive losses as Udinese’s manager, and their earlier four-match unbeaten streak in the Serie A now seems like a distant memory. On the other hand, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter bounced back after a three-match winless streak.
Genoa 0-3 Juventus
Juventus moved to 2nd place in the Serie A standings with a 3-0 win against Genoa, where Dušan Vlahović scored two goals, leaving Il Grifone still without a home win this season. After a tough match, Genoa is now in 16th place and at risk of falling into the relegation zone, while Juventus can take pleasure in their current position.
Bologna 1-1 Atalanta
A late goal by Lazar Samardžić earned Atalanta a hard-fought draw against 10-man Bologna, prolonging the Rossoblù’s winless streak in Serie A at home to six matches. Samardžić picked up the ball at the edge of the box, created some space, and fired an unstoppable shot into the corner past Skorupski, preventing Bologna from securing their first home Serie A victory since April.
Torino 2-3 Lazio
Torino experienced their first loss of the league season as Lazio secured a 3-2 victory in Serie A, maintaining their unbeaten streak against the Granata in away matches to six games. This defeat is Torino’s second in a row, following their exit from the Coppa Italia against Empoli. For Lazio, this marks their third league win, reigniting their aspirations to remain competitive with the top six teams, although they missed the opportunity to achieve three consecutive clean sheets against Torino for the first time since 1973.
Como 3-2 Verona
Cesc Fàbregas’ Como team secured their second consecutive victory in Serie A with a hard-fought 3-2 win against Hellas Verona, maintaining an impressive unbeaten streak of seven matches against the Gialloblu in the top division. The match became tense as the visitors scored their second goal through Mathis Lambourde during injury time, but it was ultimately not enough, leaving Verona with their fourth loss in six league matches.
AS Roma 2-1 Venezia
Late goals from Bryan Cristante and Niccolò Pisilli propelled AS Roma to a remarkable comeback victory over Venezia, securing Ivan Jurić his second consecutive Serie A win as the team’s manager. With the match finely balanced in the final moments, Roma completed their comeback seven minutes before the end, when substitute Pisilli headed in from a corner taken by Leandro Paredes. Despite their attempts, Venezia could not respond to Roma’s late surge, extending their search for a first Serie A away win since February 2022.
Empoli 0-0 Fiorentina
Empoli and Fiorentina played a lackluster 0-0 draw, allowing Roberto D’Aversa’s team to maintain the club’s longest unbeaten run at the beginning of a Serie A season, now at six matches (2 wins, 4 draws). The visitors’ poor away performance in Serie A continues, with only four wins in their last 17 games (5 draws, 8 losses).
Napoli 2-0 Monza
Napoli climbed to the top of the standings with a 2-0 win against AC Monza, who have now gone 15 matches without a victory in Serie A. Although the Biancorossi showed some effort in the second half, they were unable to score, leaving Nesta’s team as the only club, without a win in the league this season. They remain in 19th place, while Conte’s squad is comfortably in first, one point ahead of Juventus.
Parma 2-3 Cagliari
A late goal from Roberto Piccoli secured Cagliari’s first win of the Serie A season, as they triumphed over Parma 3-2 at the Stadio Ennio Tardini. This thrilling victory allows Cagliari to equal Parma on points, placing them just above the relegation zone in Serie A.
