Bundesliga Roundup, Matchday 3
The third matchday of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season featured exciting games and outstanding performances. Here’s the Bundesliga roundup from this round.
Leverkusen 3-1 Frankfurt
Kasper Hjulmand marked his debut as Bayer Leverkusen’s coach with an impressive 3-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt at the BayArena. Even after being reduced to nine players, Leverkusen secured their 11th straight home Bundesliga victory against this opponent. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Grimaldo extended the lead by curling a free-kick off the post, ensuring Leverkusen’s first league win of the season.

Wolfsburg 3-3 Cologne
Jakub Kamiński, on loan from VfL Wolfsburg, scored a 104th-minute equalizer against his parent club, helping Cologne come back twice from behind to secure an exciting 3-3 draw at the Volkswagen Arena. This result extended the home team’s Bundesliga record winless streak to 10 matches. In a truly chaotic game, Kamiński converted another equalizer from Ragnar Ache’s assist in the final moments, quieting the home fans and maintaining Cologne’s unbeaten run this season.
Union Berlin 2-4 Hoffenheim
Fisnik Asllani played a key role for Hoffenheim as they secured consecutive away wins at the beginning of a Bundesliga season for only the second time in the club’s history, beating Union Berlin 4-2 at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. This result means Union has now suffered back-to-back losses, after a heavy defeat against Borussia Dortmund in their previous match.
Mainz 0-1 RB Leipzig
Johan Bakayoko scored his first goal for RB Leipzig, leading them to a 1-0 victory against FC Mainz 05 at the Mewa Arena. This result means that Mainz have now failed to win any of their first three matches for the third consecutive Bundesliga season. The home team suffered their seventh Bundesliga home game without a win (five draws, two losses). Meanwhile, Leipzig’s win has brought them level on points with the team in sixth place, following only their second clean sheet in six away league matches.

Heidenheim 0-2 Dortmund
Serhou Guirassy scored in his eighth straight Bundesliga match, helping Borussia Dortmund continue their unbeaten run this season with a solid 2-0 win against 10-man Heidenheim at the Voith-Arena. Although there was no third goal, Die Schwarzgelben enjoyed consecutive clean sheets and a victory that extends their unbeaten league streak to 11 games (9 wins, 2 draws). Meanwhile, struggling Heidenheim will end the matchday as the only Bundesliga team yet to earn a point this season.

Freiburg 3-1 Stuttgart
SC Freiburg secured their first Bundesliga win of the season by rallying to beat VfB Stuttgart 3-1 at the Europa-Park Stadion. This result marked Stuttgart’s second straight loss for the first time since January 2024. Freiburg held on to their lead to claim their initial points of the campaign, moving them up from the bottom of the league standings. On the other hand, Stuttgart will be deeply frustrated to have lost in this manner after leading for much of the match.
Bayern Munich 5-0 Hamburger SV
Hamburger SV’s long-standing struggles at the Allianz Arena continued as the newly promoted team suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to Bayern Munich, marking their 10th straight Bundesliga defeat at this stadium. Bayern’s total Bundesliga goals against Hamburg have now reached 252, the highest they have scored against any opponent in the league. Meanwhile, Hamburg, coming off a disappointing home loss to local rivals St. Pauli, faced further setbacks, though their chances of avoiding relegation will probably depend on other matches rather than this particularly challenging Bundesliga away game.

St Pauli 2-1 Augsburg
St Pauli secured only their third win in 11 head-to-head matches by beating Augsburg 2-1 in a Bundesliga game at the Millerntor-Stadion, thanks to a late goal from Danel Sinani. This victory propels Kiezkicker up into the top four, while the disappointed Fuggerstädter drop to 11th place.
Monchengladbach 0-4 Werder Bremen
SV Werder Bremen secured their first three points of the Bundesliga season by defeating Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-0 at Borussia-Park, extending Die Fohlen’s winless streak to 10 league matches, their longest since the troubled 2006-07 season. Meanwhile, Horst Steffen notched his first victory, marking only Bremen’s second win in their last 18 head-to-head encounters with Gladbach, and will aim to surpass last season’s eighth-place finish, which was their best top-flight result in 15 years.
