Bundesliga Roundup, Matchday 5

Matchday 5 of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season featured exciting games and outstanding performances. Here’s the Bundesliga roundup from this round.

Bayern Munich 4-0 Werder Bremen

Harry Kane became the quickest player this century to score 100 goals for a club in the top five leagues, achieving the milestone by netting two goals in Bayern Munich’s dominant 4-0 victory over Werder Bremen. This win marked Bayern’s eighth straight competitive win to start a season, a feat they hadn’t accomplished since the 2016/17 season under Carlo Ancelotti. However, most of the attention will focus on Kane, who reached 100 club goals in one fewer game than Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland, solidifying his status as one of the world’s leading goal scorers.

Wolfsburg 0-1 RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig extended their Bundesliga winning streak to four games by defeating Wolfsburg 1-0 at the Volkswagen Arena, a venue where the home team has now gone 11 league matches without a victory. Ole Werner’s squad seems to have fully recovered from their 6-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on the opening day, currently sitting comfortably in the top four after winning all their matches since. The situation is different for Wolfsburg, who have only managed a win against Heidenheim so far, but there is still plenty of time for Simonis to work his magic, as he did last season by leading his former club, Go Ahead Eagles, to European qualification.

St Pauli 1-2 Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen established a new record by going 36 Bundesliga away matches unbeaten (24 wins, 12 draws) following their 2-1 victory over St. Pauli on Saturday afternoon. However, the day was somewhat overshadowed by what appeared to be a serious hamstring injury to Schick in the final moments. Despite this, Leverkusen have now remained undefeated in their last eight Bundesliga encounters with St. Pauli, dating back to a 3-1 loss in the 1996/97 season. This win also allowed them to move ahead of their hosts, climbing to 6th place in the Bundesliga standings.

Mainz 0-2 Dortmund

Dortmund secured a 2-0 victory against 10-man FSV Mainz 05 at the Mewa Arena, extending their best season start in ten years by scoring at least two goals in their seventh consecutive away league match. This win brings Dortmund to just two points behind the flawless leaders Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, some Mainz supporters might be growing anxious about relegation, as the team has now gone 16 league games without keeping a clean sheet.

Heidenheim 2-1 Augsburg

Heidenheim moved up from the bottom of the Bundesliga standings by securing their first victory of the season, defeating Augsburg 2-1 at the Voith-Arena and handing Sandro Wagner’s team their fourth consecutive loss. Wagner’s squad has now lost four of their last five Bundesliga away matches, putting the new coach under early pressure despite a late goal from Phillip Tietz. Augsburg currently sit in 16th place, while Heidenheim remain in the relegation zone despite achieving their second consecutive home head-to-head win without conceding a goal.

Mönchengladbach 4-6 Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt delivered an outstanding first-half display to decisively defeat Bundesliga bottom-dwellers Borussia Mönchengladbach 6-4 at BORUSSIA-PARK. This loss adds to the hosts’ difficulties, as Gladbach now share an unfortunate record from January 2007 of going 12 league matches without a win.

Freiburg 1-1 Hoffenheim

Freiburg and TSG Hoffenheim had to share the points after a 1-1 draw at the Europa-Park Stadion. Freiburg might feel more content, as they have now gone eight Bundesliga matches unbeaten against Hoffenheim. Meanwhile, Christian Ilzer’s team will be eager to break their run of 10 consecutive Bundesliga games without a clean sheet to prevent being involved in a relegation fight for the second year in a row.

FC Cologne 1-2 Stuttgart

Cologne have managed only one victory in their last 15 home head-to-head matches against VfB Stuttgart, following a 2-1 loss in the Bundesliga. This win allowed Stuttgart to move ahead of Cologne into the European qualification spots, earning their first away league points of the season after suffering two earlier defeats.

Union Berlin 0-0 Hamburger SV

Following a high-scoring start with 19 goals in their first four Bundesliga games, Union Berlin settled for a 0-0 draw against Hamburger SV, who were the stronger team despite the home side missing an early penalty. Hamburg will appreciate every point they earn. However, they will likely be frustrated not to have secured all three points given their performance. Meanwhile, Union will regret missing the early penalty in their first league match since April that didn’t feature three or more total goals.
