Aaron Ramsey has returned to Cardiff City after 15 years while his son signs with the team’s academy

Aaron Ramsey, the 32-year-old Welsh midfielder, has returned to his boyhood club, Cardiff City, 15 years after leaving as an 18-year-old. The former Wales captain has signed a two-year deal with the club, marking his third spell with the team.

The move to Cardiff City Stadium comes after Ramsey’s contract with French club Nice expired earlier this summer, where he made 34 appearances during his one-season stint. Now, he is back with his family and familiar faces, expressing his delight to be reunited with the club he holds dear.

Ramsey spent 11 years at Arsenal after his initial departure from Cardiff, followed by stints at Juventus and Rangers. The midfielder’s decision to return to Cardiff City is deeply rooted in his affection for the club, where he started his professional career 16 years ago.

The Welshman’s seven-year-old son, Sonny, also became a part of the Cardiff City family on the same day, signing a contract with the club’s academy. Ramsey acknowledged his debt of gratitude to the Championship side, stating that he owes much to Cardiff, the fans, and everyone associated with the club during his early years.

Ramsey made his first-team debut for Cardiff City in April 2007 at just 16 years and 123 days old, becoming the club’s youngest player at the time. After a successful stint with Arsenal, he briefly returned to the South Wales club on loan in February 2011. He then went on to play for top clubs like Juventus and Rangers before joining Nice in the summer of 2022.

As Ramsey returns to Cardiff City, the club aims to achieve their goals and strive to reach the top under the guidance of their new manager, Erol Bulut. Ramsey’s addition to the squad marks Cardiff’s second signing of the season, following Karlan Grant’s season-long loan move from West Bromwich Albion.

Ramsey could potentially make his competitive return for Cardiff City when they face Leeds United at Elland Road on August 6, marking an exciting start to the new Championship season.
