AC Milan vs Inter Review
The 182nd Serie A Derby della Madonnina was filled with excitement right up to the final moments, as Stefan de Vrij scored an equalizer in the 93rd minute, allowing Inter Milan to draw with AC Milan and prevent consecutive losses in their head-to-head matchups. The match started off with both teams eager for victory, and Federico Dimarco found the net within the first seven minutes, but his goal was disallowed because Lautaro Martínez was offside before he passed the ball to him.
As the half-hour mark neared, the Nerazzurri began to take control, but Martínez faced several frustrations in front of the net. He missed a chance by turning Çalhanoğlu’s cross wide from a difficult angle, had a goal disallowed for Barella being offside and finally sent a shot way off target. The Rossoneri soon posed a threat of their own, with Tijjani Reijnders’ attempt requiring a spectacular save, while Benjamin Pavard made an excellent tackle to prevent Rafael Leão from reaching the Dutchman’s pass. However, AC Milan managed to score before halftime, as Yann Sommer got a hand to Leão’s low cross but could only redirect it to Reijnders, who found the net.
Inter had a significant opportunity just after the restart, but Martínez shot directly at Maignan, and shortly after, Denzel Dumfries blocked Leão’s attempt as the second half began with intensity. Fikayo Tomori then matched Stefan de Vrij’s leap to deflect a header away, and Dimarco’s shot was also thwarted. Simone Inzaghi responded with a triple substitution in the 63rd minute, but Inter’s struggles continued as Martínez had yet another goal disallowed. Yann Bisseck then hit the post with his header, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan shot wide, while Reijnders’ weak attempt was also saved.
The goalpost saved Milan on two more occasions, preventing shots from Marcus Thuram and Dumfries, before Maignan courageously came out to block Dumfries. However, Inter was determined not to lose, and debutant Nicola Zalewski set up De Vrij, who instinctively scored, increasing Inter’s unbeaten streak in Serie A to a league-leading 17 matches. Although Milan didn’t lose, conceding a goal so late is yet another frustrating setback after their midweek defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.
