AFCON 2021 Awards: Mane wins player of the tournament

Award winners of the AFCON 2021

The AFCON 2021 tournament has ended and Senegal were crowned as the Champions of Africa after they defeated Egypt 4-2 during the penalty shootout. It was an intense game for both teams, however, Senegal were the better team as they created a lot of goal-scoring chances.

Cameroon, the host nation came 3rd after they defeated Burkina Faso 5-3 during the penalty shootout. The game ended 3-3 after extra-time; Burkina Faso were leading 3-0 before the 70th minute of the game until Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar and Bahoken equalized for the host nations.

Player of the tournament – Sadio Mane (Senegal)

Sadio Mane was named player of the AFCON 2021 tournament; he managed to score 3 goals of which one was a penalty and provide 2 assists in the tournament. Two of his goals were crucial to Senegal’s advancement to the final.

Goalkeeper of the tournament – Edouard Mendy (Senegal)

Senegal and Chelsea start Edouard Mendy was named goalkeeper of the tournament; he managed to keep 3 clean sheets in five games while 2 goals, one in each match. Mendy beat Egyptian goalkeeper, Mohamed Abou Gabal to win the award.

Top scorer of the tournament – Vincent Aboubakar (Cameroon)

Vincent Aboubakar completed the tournament with 8 goals, making him the tournament’s top scorer.

AFCON 2021 Final man of the match – Mohamed Abou Gabal (Egypt)

Arguably Egypt’s best performer of the tournament, Mohamed Abou Gabal made crucial saves to keep Egypt going through to the penalty shootout and even saved one penalty during the shootout.
