Antony could be dropped by Man. United amid allegations of abuse

The future of Brazilian forward Antony at Manchester United is uncertain following his exclusion from the Brazilian national team and allegations of assault made by DJ and influencer Gabriela Cavallin, his former girlfriend.

Antony, who was on the verge of representing Brazil, now faces potential repercussions from his club in the wake of the CBF’s decision to remove him from the first two rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Sources suggest that Manchester United has shifted its stance towards the allegations after the CBF’s decision, adopting a more cautious approach. There is speculation that the club might follow a similar path as they did with Mason Greenwood. Greenwood, another youth product of the club, was sidelined after allegations of assault and sexual violence were made against him by his partner. Despite the subsequent clearance of all charges by British authorities, he was not reintegrated into the Red Devils’ squad and was instead loaned to Getafe in Spain.

Antony’s relationship with Gabriela Cavallin ended in May, and in the following month, she filed her first police report against him, accusing him of assault. Recently, detailed records of threats, intimidation, and physical aggression attributed to Antony were published by UOL, based on photos, videos, conversations, and witness statements collected during the investigation.

As a result of the growing controversy, the CBF decided to de-select Antony and call up Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus as his replacement.

Initially, Antony remained silent regarding the UOL report but later took to social media to refute the allegations, stating that they are false.

Antony, who joined Manchester United from Ajax for a hefty fee of 95 million euros, is the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history, surpassed only by Paul Pogba. However, his performance on the pitch has yet to match the investment made in him. While he is a regular starter under manager Erik ten Hag, he has not reached the status of a standout performer. In 48 appearances for the club, he has scored eight goals and provided three assists. In the current season, he has yet to find the net or register an assist.
