Declan Rice has finally completed his transfer from West Ham United to Arsenal
Arsenal has officially announced the signing of midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham United in a British-record deal worth £105 million. The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the option for an additional year, making him the most expensive British player in history.
Rice’s transfer to join The Gunners had been widely speculated, and negotiations between the two clubs were finalized earlier this month. The deal includes an initial transfer fee of £100 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.
The England international expressed his excitement about joining Arsenal, citing the club’s recent progress under manager Mikel Arteta as a key factor in his decision. Rice highlighted Arsenal’s impressive style of play and their outstanding performance in the previous season, which saw them finish second in the Premier League.
Declan Rice’s signing is a significant coup for Arsenal, as he brings immense talent and experience to the squad. Having already captained West Ham United and recently lifted a European trophy, Rice is expected to make a significant impact at his new club.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his delight with Rice’s arrival, emphasizing the midfielder’s remarkable abilities and his experience in leading a successful Premier League team. Arteta believes Rice’s addition will strengthen Arsenal’s squad and contribute to the club’s ambitions for success.
Previously, Manchester City had shown interest in Rice, matching Arsenal’s initial bid of £90 million. However, Arsenal’s improved offer ultimately secured the services of the highly sought-after midfielder.
Rice, who began his career in Chelsea’s youth academy before joining West Ham United, has made 245 appearances for the Hammers since his debut in 2017. He will wear the number 41 shirt at Arsenal, just as he did during his time at West Ham.
Arsenal’s acquisition of Rice follows their other high-profile signings this summer, including attacker Kai Havertz and defender Jurrien Timber. These additions demonstrate Arsenal’s ambition to strengthen their squad and compete at the highest level in the upcoming season.
Rice will join his new teammates in the United States as Arsenal embarks on their pre-season tour, where they will face MLS All-Stars, Barcelona, and Manchester United.
