Arsenal extended their winning streak in the UCL league phase to nine games with an impressive 3-1 victory over Bayern Munich, handing the German team their first loss in any competition this season. The visitors responded aggressively, but were caught out on the counterattack by the speedy Gabriel Martinelli, who confidently dribbled past the charging Neuer and slotted the ball into the empty goal.
Any hopes Bayern had of maintaining their unbeaten streak were dashed by that goal, allowing Mikel Arteta’s team to secure a memorable victory. Arsenal’s impressive 16-match unbeaten streak across all competitions goes on, and this result sends a strong message that they have the potential to win European football’s most prestigious trophy for the first time. Vincent Kompany’s team ultimately succumbed to the best opponent they have faced this season, but they won’t be too disheartened since this marks only their first loss in 22 competitive away matches.
