Arsenal vs PSG Review
Arsenal continued their longest unbeaten streak under Mikel Arteta to 15 matches (12 wins, 3 draws) by defeating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League, showcasing a strong performance at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners had the first opportunity of the match when Bukayo Saka cut in from the right and sent a dangerous shot just past Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal. Arsenal took the lead in the 20th minute thanks to Leandro Trossard, who raced down the left wing and delivered a perfect cross for Kai Havertz to head in.
PSG struggled to break free for long stretches, and after a brief moment of danger when Nuno Mendes hit the post and David Raya denied Hakimi, Arsenal doubled their lead. Saka, after being knocked down by Mendes, delivered a free-kick that slipped past everyone and found the back of the net, although Donnarumma could have done better to claim it.
In the secon half, Donnarumma had to react quickly to stop Gabriel Martinelli from scoring a third goal. PSG faced a strong defense led by the tireless Gabriel, and the home fans had more to cheer about shortly after the hour mark when Mikel Merino made his long-awaited return from injury, coming on for Thomas Partey. Arsenal may have felt some anxiety when João Neves hit the crossbar and Lee Kang-in’s curling shot was saved by Raya, but that tension quickly faded as the home team secured the win.
PSG has now faced Arsenal five times, marking the most encounters they’ve had with a single opponent in Europe without a victory. They will next compete in Ligue 1 against OGC Nice on Sunday night, while Arteta’s squad aims to build on their recent success by defeating Southampton on Saturday.
