AS Roma and Juventus played a 1-1 draw in an exciting match for the Serie A European spots, ending Roma’s impressive seven-match winning streak in the league. The game started cautiously, with Juventus dominating possession, holding over 80% of the ball in the first 20 minutes, but struggled to penetrate Roma’s strong defense. Roma then had a brief period of positive play and came close to scoring when Bryan Cristante’s shot was expertly cleared by Kalulu’s tackle.

The remainder of the first half was played at an intense pace, and it didn’t take long for both teams to hit the woodwork. González’s header was spectacularly tipped onto the crossbar by Mile Svilar, while at the other end, Stephan El Shaarawy’s header struck the post. The highlight of the high-quality half came with five minutes remaining, when Kalulu’s cross was cleared to the edge of the box, allowing Locatelli to execute a beautiful bouncing volley into the bottom corner past Svilar.

Ranieri made a daring decision to substitute Mats Hummels for an extra forward at halftime, a choice that quickly proved effective. Evan Ndicka’s header was well saved by Michele Di Gregorio, but substitute Eldor Shomurodov was quick to react, scoring from close range off the bar. Roma appeared to be the more likely team to score next, although solid defending from players like Kalulu kept the score level as the match approached its conclusion.

Juve shifted momentum and sought a late goal, but they ended up with just a point. Roma, unable to secure three points in Serie A for the first time since early February, will likely find motivation in this result as they prepare for next weekend’s intense Derby della Capitale against sixth-placed Lazio. On the other hand, Juve managed to avoid a loss against a direct competitor and remain in fifth place, although they have only won three out of their 15 matches this season against the current top nine teams.
