Aston Villa has been hit with a significant blow as their talented attacking midfielder, Emi Buendia, sustained a knee ligament injury during a training session on Wednesday.
The club confirmed that Buendia’s ACL injury will require an extended period of recovery, with the player set to undergo further consultation with a knee specialist.
Buendia’s absence will undoubtedly impact Villa’s upcoming Premier League campaign. The 26-year-old Argentine international was a standout performer during their pre-season, contributing three goals and an assist. Last season, he played a pivotal role in Villa’s squad, appearing in all 38 league matches, scoring five goals, and providing two assists.
Buendia’s injury leaves a void in Villa’s midfield creativity, forcing manager Unai Emery to rethink his tactical setup. His ability to link up with Ollie Watkins and create opportunities was set to be a crucial asset for the team. The injury might prompt Villa to explore the transfer market for attacking reinforcements, especially with Jacob Ramsey also out due to injury.
Villa faces a challenging start to the new season, beginning with a match against Newcastle United, followed by a home game against Everton and the first leg of their Conference League play-off tie. Despite this setback, Buendia remains optimistic about his recovery, posting on Instagram that he’s focused on a positive and speedy comeback.
