Atletico Madrid transfer news: Caglar Soyuncu has signed a four-year deal with Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid has announced the acquisition of Turkish defender Caglar Soyuncu on a four-year contract following the expiration of his deal with Leicester City. The 27-year-old center-back completed his move to the Wanda Metropolitano after representing the Foxes in 132 appearances across all competitions, contributing four goals and one assist.
Soyuncu’s playing time was limited last season, featuring only nine times for Leicester. As a result, he sought a new challenge, ultimately joining La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
A statement on Atletico’s official website read, “Caglar Soyuncu is now a new player for Atletico de Madrid following the agreement reached between our club and the Turkish footballer, who signs for four seasons. He will join the squad at the beginning of the 2023/24 pre-season, which will start on Friday, July 7.”
The Turkish international will bring valuable European experience to the Spanish side, having featured in both the Europa League and the Europa Conference League during his time at Leicester.
In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Soyuncu expressed his gratitude to Leicester City and its fans, acknowledging the club as his home and expressing immense pride in wearing the blue shirt. He thanked the supporters for their unwavering support throughout his tenure and expressed his growth as a player due to their chants, trust, and backing.
The arrival of Soyuncu marks Atletico Madrid’s second signing of the summer transfer window, following the earlier acquisition of experienced left-back Javi Galan from Celta Vigo. The club, which finished third in La Liga last season, aims to strengthen its squad as it vies for domestic and European success in the upcoming campaign.
