Barcelona Transfer News: Joao Cancelo, a defender for Manchester City, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Barcelona.
However, the transfer is still pending the outcome of ongoing talks between the two teams. Following a set of circumstances that resulted in his loan stint at Bayern Munich last season, the 29-year-old right back’s future with the Premier League champions has been called into question.
The Portuguese international’s future at Manchester City became questionable after a furious altercation with manager Pep Guardiola on the training ground. This prompted his sudden departure from the club during the last transfer window. Cancelo may have been essential to Bayern Munich winning the Bundesliga last season, but it appears he is eager to sign a long-term contract with Barcelona and resurrect his La Liga career.
Cancelo has been a target for Barcelona since January, when manager Xavi deemed him a major priority for the team’s defense. The Catalan team has been eager to add to their roster, particularly in light of Ousmane Dembele’s likely transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, which is anticipated to free up some funds for buying him. Barcelona and Manchester City are now in negotiations to settle the terms of the transaction and sign the defender.
Joao Cancelo moved to Manchester City in 2019 for £27.4 million from Juventus, and he quickly cemented himself as an important member of the team.
