Barcelona transfer news: Javier Tebas believes that Busquets leaving Barcelona is amongst the preparations the club is making that could potentially enable them re-sign Lionel Messi
Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, recently released a statement on Lionel Messi’s prospective return to Barcelona after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires. Tebas opined that Messi’s comeback may be facilitated by Sergio Busquets’ departure but emphasised that this is not the only factor that could pave way for the Argentine to re-join the club.
Tebas spoke with COPE on Barcelona’s present state, particularly the recently announced departure of Busquets, who has been a member of the team for the past 15 years. According to Tebas, “the future of Barcelona does not depend on the departure of a single player, it depends on the signings they want to make” (translated from Spanish).
Tebas went on to say that he is unaware of Barcelona’s viability strategy and therefore he cannot decide. He said that the plan’s feasibility is determined by the club’s financial control. He also acknowledged the need for a viability strategy because Barcelona has a budget of over 800 million euros and substantial costs.
Tebas did remark that Messi may return to Barcelona, but he also said that he is unaware of the team’s intentions for player departures and that he doesn’t ask about such things.
Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, confirmed in another statement that there are no current agreements with any club for next season. This statement came in light of the rumors that Lionel Messi had agreed to a move to Saudi Arabia club, Al Hilal.
He said: “There is absolutely nothing with any club for next year” (translated from Spanish).
Tebas acknowledged that Busquets’ departure may open the door for Messi to return, but it is not the only factor at play; managerial and financial decisions at Barcelona ultimately have the final say. Currently, Barcelona is planning to sell a lot of players with several rumors suggesting that Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati could leave.
