Barcelona vs Mallorca Review
Barcelona extended their unbeaten streak in La Liga to 14 matches (12 wins, 2 draws) by defeating Mallorca 1-0 at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, further solidifying their position at the top of the standings. The home team entered this match following a thrilling comeback win against Celta Vigo, where they scored three goals in the last 30 minutes to secure a 4-3 victory. And a win in this match would provide them with a significant advantage at the top of the table, despite having played one more game. On the other hand, Mallorca is actively competing for a European spot and demonstrated their resilience, managing to keep the score level at halftime.

Barcelona put in a strong effort, despite Hansi Flick making changes to his lineup from the match against Vigo, resting key players like Raphinha. Nevertheless, the Blaugrana generated numerous scoring opportunities. They seemed to lack the finishing touch that Raphinha typically provides, as Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, and Ansu Fati all failed to convert their chances. Torres, Yamal, and Dani Olmo did manage to test goalkeeper Leo Román, who successfully saved their attempts, while Gavi’s low shot was deflected onto the post by José Copete.

Mallorca struggled to escape their half but did manage to score through Mateo Jaume, only for the goal to be disallowed for a tight offside call. After a goalless first half, Barcelona quickly found the net less than a minute into the second half, with Olmo scoring a composed goal, marking his ninth La Liga goal in just 11 appearances this season. Initially, it seemed like Barcelona might score again, as Román denied Fati and Yamal shot over the bar. However, Antonio Raíllo’s header that narrowly missed the post served as a reminder to the home team not to become complacent.

In the end, Mallorca was unable to maintain any pressure, allowing Barcelona to secure a crucial three points as they managed the rest of the match. Barcelona will now shift their focus from La Liga to prepare for the Copa Del Rey final against Real Madrid on Saturday, while Mallorca will face struggling Girona next Monday. Currently sitting in seventh place, Mallorca could drop to as low as 11th by the end of the game week if other results do not favor them.
