Barcelona vs Real Sociedad Review
Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski linked up for the third time in six La Liga games, helping Barcelona come from behind to defeat Real Sociedad 2-1 at the Estadi Lluís Companys. Barcelona quickly found their rhythm, applying pressure on Real Sociedad across the entire field, making it difficult for Sergio Francisco’s team to maintain possession. Álex Remiro made an incredible save to deny Marcus Rashford’s shot following a well-executed corner, and the visitors’ five-man defense held strong against the relentless attacks. After 20 minutes, Barcelona had controlled 89% of the ball, leaving Mikel Oyarzabal and his teammates struggling to keep up.

Despite their dominance, apart from Rashford’s attempt and a long-range shot from Ronald Araújo, Barcelona had few clear chances to show for their control. Following an error in midfield by Barça newcomer Dro Fernández, Sociedad launched a three-on-two counterattack, but Oyarzabal’s inaccurate pass highlighted their own weaknesses up to that point. Despite Barcelona’s efforts, they couldn’t find a breakthrough, and around the 30-minute mark, another swift attack from the Basque team saw Álvaro Odriozola connect with a cross to give La Real the lead. Remiro then made an incredible save to prevent an own goal, and Pedri’s follow-up shot somehow went wide off a confused Igor Zubeldia.

However, Sociedad’s good fortune ended just before halftime when Rashford’s corner was met by a powerful header from Jules Koundé, leveling the score. The second half began with intense back-and-forth action, and Aihen Muñoz’s driven cross only needed a slight touch for the visitors to regain the lead, but that didn’t happen. In matches against the Spanish champions, missed chances are often punished, and the introduction of Yamal just before the hour mark had an immediate effect. Within a minute of coming on, the young prodigy’s strong run and precise cross found Lewandowski, who powered in a signature header.

Oyarzabal nearly quieted the loud home crowd immediately afterward, but a poor first touch caused the opportunity to slip away, allowing Barcelona to regain their confidence. Remiro made strong saves against powerful shots from Rashford and Dani Olmo, and an offside call stopped Lamine Yamal as Barcelona tried to capitalize on their lead. However, their high defensive line left them vulnerable, with Takefusa Kubo hitting the post twice late in the game, serving as warnings before another Barcelona victory.

Despite playing away from their usual home, Barcelona have now won 10 of their last 12 matches at the Estadi Lluís Companys and handed Real Sociedad their sixth defeat in seven La Liga away games. Additionally, Barcelona have secured 27 wins in their last 28 home league head-to-head matches against Sociedad.
