Bayern Munich vs PSG Review
Bayern Munich secured an important 1-0 win against PSG, enhancing their standing in the Champions League and marking their fourth consecutive victory in head-to-head matchups in this tournament. Matvey Safonov was active early in the game, managing to deflect a corner from Joshua Kimmich and stopping powerful shots from Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané. After weathering Bayern’s initial onslaught, PSG began to find their rhythm as the first half went on, but Ousmane Dembélé’s shot rolled harmlessly into the hands of Manuel Neuer. In search of a spark in what had become a closely contested match, Kingsley Coman maneuvered through several defenders into the box but missed the target just before the half-hour mark.
Warren Zaïre-Emery had a great chance at the other end but squandered his shot. Meanwhile, Dembélé created space against Kim Min-jae and forced Neuer into a strong save, with João Neves sending the follow-up wide. PSG’s momentum came to a halt in the 38th minute when Safonov’s weak punch from Kimmich’s corner allowed Kim to head the ball into the net. The situation could have worsened for PSG shortly after, as Coman sprinted past Hakimi and sent a close effort just over the crossbar. Safonov then managed to stop shots from Kimmich and Sané, keeping the score at 1-0 as they headed into halftime.
Just before the hour mark, Dembélé had a chance to equalize but his shot was blocked by Alphonso Davies. Dembélé then received a second yellow card for a tackle on Alphonso Davies after he had already been booked for dissent in the first half. Despite this setback, PSG continued to push for an equalizer, with Lee Kang-in coming off the bench to deliver a promising free-kick that Nuno Mendes missed. Neuer then made an excellent pass that led to Coman shooting over, while Safonov made a fantastic save, deflecting Musiala’s shot onto the post.
Neves missed the visitors’ best opportunity late in the game, allowing Bayern to secure their seventh straight win in all competitions and their second consecutive victory in the UCL. This puts them just one point away from automatic qualification spots, while PSG struggles outside the playoff positions, having not won any of their last four UCL matches.
