Benjamin Mendy has quickly returned to the world of football after being acquitted of rape and attempted rape charges.

He has joined the French team Lorient, just five days after being cleared. Lorient officially announced the signing on their website, confirming Mendy’s move from Manchester City, where he was recently released.

“FC Lorient is pleased to announce today the signing for two seasons of French international left-back Benjamin Mendy.”

“After having satisfied the traditional medical examination, Benjamin Mendy, world champion 2018, quadruple winner of the Premier League under the colors of Manchester City and French champion of Ligue 1 with Monaco in particular, comes to reinforce the Lorient workforce for this new season.”

“The native of Longjumeau, who will wear number 5 with the Merlus, will take his first steps at Espace FCL today.. Welcome Benjamin!”

Mendy’s return to his home country of France, under a two-year agreement, occurred shortly after he was acquitted of rape charges in a two-week trial at Chester Crown Court.

The left-back had been facing multiple charges of rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault for nearly three years. In January, he was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, but a retrial was necessary for two claims involving two women that the jury could not reach a verdict on.

However, the outcome of the retrial on July 14th resulted in Mendy being cleared of all accusations against him.
