Bournemouth has secured the signing of talented midfielder Alex Scott from Bristol City, in what is reported to be a club-record deal worth around £25 million.
Scott, a highly-rated 19-year-old, has agreed to a long-term contract with the Cherries, becoming their fifth signing of the summer.
Despite currently suffering from a significant knee injury, Scott’s arrival is highly anticipated. He was named the Championship Young Player of the Season and earned a place in the Championship Team of the Season based on his outstanding performances for Bristol City in the previous campaign. This young English midfielder has already made a name for himself and is considered one of the most exciting prospects in European football.
Several other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and West Ham United, were reportedly interested in Scott, but Bournemouth successfully secured his signature.
Bournemouth’s CEO, Neill Blake, expressed his excitement about the acquisition, highlighting Scott’s technical ability and footballing intelligence. The club sees Scott as an excellent fit for their system and aims to further develop his potential under the management of Andoni Iraola.
While Scott will have to undergo a period of rehabilitation for his knee injury before joining his new teammates, Bournemouth is optimistic about his future contributions. Scott’s versatility, his ability to play as an 8 or 10, makes him a valuable asset for Bournemouth’s 4-3-3 shape.
This signing adds to Bournemouth’s busy summer, with the club already bringing in several new players, including Hamed Junior Traore, Milos Kerkez, Romain Faivre, and Justin Kluivert. The Cherries kick off their 2023-24 Premier League campaign with a match against West Ham United, and Scott’s recovery will be closely monitored as he aims to make an impact for his new club.
