Vinicius and Joelinton have been included in the Brazil Squad for their friendlies in June
Vinicius Junior has been selected for Brazil’s team for upcoming friendly matches against Guinea and Senegal. This is his first time being called up to the national team after he was subjected to racial abuse during a match against Valencia earlier this month. The games against Guinea and Senegal are part of Brazil’s anti-racism campaign in support of Vinicius Jr, who has been racially insulted by fans 10 times this season in LaLiga.
Brazil, who have won the world cup five times, are scheduled to play against Guinea in Barcelona on June 17th and Senegal in Lisbon three days after. The team selected by interim manager Ramon Menezes includes four players who are receiving their first call-up, such as Joelinton, a midfielder from Newcastle United.
“There is always room in the national team for players performing well,” Menezes, who coaches the Under-20 team currently playing at the World Cup in Argentina, told a press conference.
“But you’ll notice that in every position there are players who played at the World Cup, which is important so they can provide support for those who are being called up for the first time.”
Vanderson, Nino, and Ayrton Lucas, who are defenders, have also been selected for the first time. Menezes has been serving as the interim manager since Tite departed from the national team following the World Cup. The Brazilian Football Association has been considering Carlo Ancelotti, who is associated with Real Madrid, for the position, but the Italian has stated that he will fulfill his club contract’s final year.
