Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the signing of Igor Julio from Fiorentina
Brighton & Hove Albion has completed the signing of Brazilian center-back Igor Julio from Fiorentina. The 25-year-old defender has agreed to a four-year contract with the Premier League side after a fee of €17 million ($18.8 million) plus €3 million in add-ons was agreed upon with Fiorentina.
Igor expressed his excitement about joining Brighton and fulfilling his childhood dream of playing in the Premier League. He is eager to showcase his abilities and win the hearts of the fans while contributing to the team’s success.
Brighton’s head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, emphasized Igor’s importance to the squad, particularly in a crucial position where the play starts. The club sees him as a valuable addition to their ranks as they gear up for the Europa League after finishing sixth in the 2022-23 Premier League season.
Having previously made 110 appearances for Fiorentina, Igor had a successful stint in Serie A, helping the club achieve an eighth-placed finish last season. He also played a crucial role in Fiorentina’s run in the Europa Conference League, making 11 appearances, including the final against West Ham United.
Brighton’s latest signing marks their sixth addition of the summer, with players like James Milner, Mahmoud Dahoud, Adrian Mazilu, Joao Pedro, and Bart Verbruggen joining the team.
Igor is thrilled to work with De Zerbi, whom he regards as a fantastic coach that can help him evolve as a player. He aims to become one of the best defenders in the team and is eager to contribute to the club’s European journey in the Europa League
