Brighton vs Liverpool Review
Brighton made a remarkable comeback to secure a 3-2 victory at the Amex Stadium against Premier League champions Liverpool, marking their first win in five encounters. Despite already clinching the league title, Liverpool showed no signs of easing off when Cody Gakpo nearly scored in the first minute. The Reds took the lead just nine minutes into the match when Mohamed Salah redirected Dominik Szoboszlai’s pass to Conor Bradley, who entered the box and set up Harvey Elliott for a goal. At the other end, Simon Adingra’s shot deflected off Bradley’s foot and hit the top of the net, while Pervis Estupiñán later shot over the bar from the resulting corner.

The match continued with Brighton responding effectively to their earlier setback, as Yankuba Minteh’s shot was deflected wide and Danny Welbeck’s header went off-target under pressure from Kostas Tsimikas. The Seagulls equalized shortly after the 30-minute mark when Yasin Ayari skillfully controlled Brajan Gruda’s well-placed pass and calmly scored against Alisson Becker. However, the Reds regained their lead in the dying moments of the first half when Szoboszlai shot over Bart Verbruggen and into the net.

After the break, Alisson deflected a Welbeck free-kick wide and blocked a header from the resulting corner, while Gruda was also thwarted by the Reds’ goalkeeper. Salah missed a significant chance, and Welbeck’s struggles in front of goal continued as he slipped while taking a shot that was saved. Shortly after Verbruggen made an impressive save against Salah, Welbeck had another shot stopped, but Brighton celebrated with 20 minutes left when Kaoru Mitoma scored from the rebound just five minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Fabian Hürzeler’s substitutes had a significant impact once more, as Jack Hinshelwood scored from Matt O’Riley’s cross just moments after coming on. This victory lifted Brighton three points ahead of Brentford and into eighth place in the Premier League, with one game remaining that could secure them a spot in European competition. Meanwhile, Liverpool has experienced consecutive away league losses for the first time since April 2023, but they have also managed to score in every away match of a top-flight season for the first time ever.
