Christian Pulisic to AC Milan is close as the Italian side agree deal with Chelsea

AC Milan and Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement for the transfer of Christian Pulisic in a deal worth up to €22 million ($24.2 million, £18.8 million). The transfer fee consists of an initial payment of €20 million, with an additional €2 million in potential add-ons. The deal also includes a meaningful sell-on clause in the event of a future transfer.

Milan made a revised bid for Pulisic worth up to €22 million after their initial offer of $15.3 million for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) captain. The 24-year-old forward is set to depart Chelsea, having found it challenging to secure a regular place in the team and seeking consistent playing time ahead of crucial upcoming years for the USMNT. With the 2024 Copa America scheduled for next summer and the US co-hosting the 2026 World Cup, Pulisic is eager to have regular minutes on the field.

Lyon had also submitted a bid of €25 million for Pulisic earlier in the week, aligning more closely with Chelsea’s valuation. However, the player expressed his lack of interest in joining Lyon, making the agreement with AC Milan all the more viable.

Pulisic, who had one year remaining on his Chelsea contract, has already reached a personal agreement with Milan. The clubs have fostered a positive relationship in recent years, with several players making moves between them, including Olivier Giroud, Fikayo Tomori, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the most recent addition to the Italian club this window.

During the 2022-23 season, Pulisic made only eight Premier League starts for Chelsea. The American international joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019 for £58 million ($63.6 million) but remained on loan in Germany for the rest of that season. Notably, Pulisic played a role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in the 2020-21 season, scoring in the first leg of the semi-final against Real Madrid.

Despite facing challenges at the club level, Pulisic continues to be a significant player for the USMNT. He has represented his country 60 times and scored 25 goals. During the 2022 World Cup, he played in all four matches for the USMNT and was named player of the match twice during the group stage games. Throughout the tournament, Pulisic recorded a goal and two assists in four appearances. Additionally, he recently received the player of the tournament award at the 2023 CONCACAF Nations League Finals. Pulisic helped lead the United States to victory over Canada, securing their second consecutive Nations League title.

With his move to AC Milan, Christian Pulisic aims to reignite his club career and contribute to the success of the Italian side, while continuing to shine on the international stage for the United States.
