Chelsea have completed the signing of English forward Cole Palmer from Manchester City in a deal reported to be worth an initial £40 million, with the potential for an additional £2.5 million in add-ons.
Palmer, a 21-year-old attacking midfielder, has signed a seven-year contract with the option for an additional year.
Palmer, a product of the Manchester City academy, expressed his excitement about joining The Blues and the opportunity to showcase his talents in a young and ambitious squad. He made 41 appearances for Manchester City’s first team in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing two assists.
The versatile forward’s recent performances included goals in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup final. Despite his contributions, he was seeking more regular first-team football, which led to his move to Chelsea.
Chelsea has been actively seeking to strengthen its attacking options, and Palmer’s arrival will add quality and versatility to their attacking unit. The club’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, highlighted Palmer’s experience of winning the Premier League and Champions League, as well as his success on the international stage with England’s Under-21 team.
Palmer’s transfer marks another significant signing for The Blues and demonstrates the club’s commitment to building a competitive squad for the future. The move is part of Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s substantial investment in the team, which has seen the club’s spending exceed £1 billion.
Cole Palmer’s talent and potential make him a valuable addition to Chelsea’s squad, and the club will look to harness his abilities to achieve success in the upcoming seasons.
