Chelsea Transfer News: The Blues have officially completed the signing of Brazilian forward Deivid Washington from Santos for an undisclosed fee reported to be around €16 million (£13.71 million) plus additional add-ons of €4 million (£3.43 million).

The 18-year-old talent has penned a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with an option for an additional year.

Washington’s move to Chelsea was confirmed after he successfully passed his medical examination and finalized personal terms. He becomes the ninth signing for Chelsea in the ongoing summer transfer window, reinforcing their squad for the upcoming season.

The Brazilian forward expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League club, stating, “I’m very happy to be joining a huge team like Chelsea. I can’t wait to make my debut here at such a big club and provide lots of goals and assists.”

Deivid Washington started his football journey with Gremio before moving to Santos in 2016. His impressive performances in the youth ranks of Santos earned him a place in the senior squad this year. During his time with the Brazilian club, he made 16 senior appearances across various competitions and scored two goals.

Washington’s signing follows the arrival of another young Brazilian talent, Angelo Gabriel, who also joined Chelsea from Santos earlier in the summer. The club’s head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, had previously indicated Chelsea’s intention to bolster their attacking options due to the absence of key players.

While there were initial discussions about the possibility of a loan move to Strasbourg for Deivid, the specifics of his transfer do not include a guaranteed loan to the French club. Chelsea may be considering their options for foreign loans, as they are limited to a maximum of seven such deals. With five foreign loan exits already secured and the potential for Romelu Lukaku to also leave on loan, Chelsea might be managing their loan allocations carefully.
