Chelsea vs Ipswich Review
Chelsea had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Ipswich at Stamford Bridge, which ended their streak of five consecutive home victories. Chelsea started strong, with Nicolas Jackson hitting the post after receiving a cross from Enzo Fernández. Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill also tested goalkeeper Alex Palmer, while Noni Madueke posed a significant threat. However, the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge quickly changed when Ipswich unexpectedly took the lead. Ben Johnson made a rare break down the wing and found Julio Enciso, who finished beautifully into the bottom corner.
Just before halftime, the Tractor Boys shocked the home crowd again, doubling their lead with the same duo involved; this time, Enciso set up Johnson for a header into the far corner, marking a challenging first half for Chelsea. Chelsea made a quick response at the start of the second half. Madueke delivered a cross into a threatening position, leading to Axel Tuanzebe accidentally scoring an own goal, reducing the deficit. Pedro Neto attempted to score, but A. Palmer successfully saved his shot. Ipswich continued to be a danger, with Enciso nearly adding another goal, but Robert Sánchez managed to collect his attempt.
However, Chelsea’s skill became evident in the final moments, as substitute Jadon Sancho scored a stunning equalizer. After receiving a short corner from Cole Palmer, he expertly curled the ball into the far corner from outside the box, securing at least a point for his team. This result puts Chelsea in 6th place, but they may feel they dropped two points at home against a team facing relegation. Ipswich can take some positives from their performance, but they remain 14 points adrift of safety with only 18 points available, missing the opportunity to achieve a rare league double over Chelsea.
