Crystal Palace vs Manchester United Review
Manchester United had the upper hand but could not capitalize on their opportunities, resulting in a goalless draw against Crystal Palace, marking their fifth consecutive visit without a win with 3 draws and 2 losses during that period.
United dominated much of the first half. The first significant opportunity came when Joshua Zirkzee set up Alejandro Garnacho, but the Argentine was thwarted by former United goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Henderson continued to impress, later saving a close-range header from Matthijs de Ligt with his feet. The Red Devils were left feeling frustrated as they went into halftime without scoring, with Henderson once again stopping Garnacho after Zirkzee’s flick from a Bruno Fernandes cross. Although United controlled possession, Palace remained a threat on the counter, particularly through Eberechi Eze, who had a good chance to score before halftime, but his weak shot was easily saved by Onana.
Unsatisfied with the first half, Oliver Glasner made two substitutions at the start of the second half, bringing on Ismaïla Sarr and Jefferson Lerma. Sarr quickly connected with Eze, whose shot was blocked, creating a positive moment for the home fans. United soon regained control, and Fernandes nearly opened the scoring with a shot from the edge of the box, but it went just wide. Frustrated by his team’s inability to capitalize on their dominance, Ten Hag introduced Marcus Rashford, hoping the English forward could extend his scoring streak.
Palace nearly scored but Onana made a quick double save, initially stopping Eddie Nketiah’s shot and then reacting to Sarr’s rebound. Palace gained momentum, but Eze missed a chance after being set up by Sarr. Ultimately, neither team managed to secure a winning goal, resulting in Palace earning their third point of the season with a third consecutive draw. Meanwhile, United will feel frustrated for not securing all three points despite their dominant performance, as their inability to convert chances proved costly once again.
