David de Gea could consider retiring if he does not get a no.1 role

David de Gea might decide to stop playing football if he doesn’t get a chance to be the main goalkeeper for a big team.

De Gea used to be Spain’s and Manchester United’s no.1. Following his departure from Manchester United this summer, he refused several offers from Saudi Arabia clubs. He’s staying in shape, hoping that the right team and manager will offer him a chance to play. He wants to play for a team that has a good chance of winning important trophies.

De Gea left Manchester United in the summer after being with them for 12 very successful years. During that time, he won the Premier League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Europa League. He was also named the best goalkeeper in the Premier League twice and was picked for the PFA team of the year five times. United’s fans voted him as the best player in their team three times in a row and four times in total.

David de Gea is upset about how he had to leave Manchester United because his contract ended. The manager, Erik ten Hag, wanted to make André Onana the new number one goalkeeper, so they offered De Gea a new contract with less money, even though he used to be one of the highest-paid players at the club, making about £375,000 a week.

They couldn’t agree on the terms of the contract, and the talks fell apart in July. That means De Gea couldn’t have a proper farewell from the fans.
