Dortmund Latest News: Emre Can, a midfielder for Borussia Dortmund, has been chosen as the team’s next captain, after the acclaimed Marco Reus.

The announcement came just days after Can inked a new contract with the Black and Yellow, solidifying his commitment to the club. The 29-year-old star will take on the responsibility of leading the team in the upcoming season.

Emre Can acknowledged his enormous joy at being elected the captain of Borussia Dortmund during a news conference that was conducted on Thursday, and his enthusiasm and pride could be heard in his comments. Can is excited to take on this responsibility and lead his colleagues to victory as it opens a new chapter in his career.

Emre Can was given the captain’s armband after a consensus among influential club members was reached. Can’s leadership abilities and commitment to the squad were acknowledged by CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, sports director Sebastian Kehl, and head coach Edin Terzic as making him the ideal candidate for the captaincy. The leadership structure within the team has been strengthened with the selection of Gregor Kobel as the new vice-captain, with Niklas Süle completing the trio of captains.

Emre Can’s promotion to captain is evidence of his spectacular turnaround since the start of the year. He became a key member of the Borussia Dortmund team in the second half of the previous campaign, contributing significantly to the team’s championship charge. National selectors took notice of his performance, which led to his well-deserved return to the Germany team earlier in the year.

Initially coming to Borussia Dortmund on loan from Juventus in January 2020, the German midfielder’s efforts were so noteworthy that the agreement was made permanent the following summer. Can has made 121 appearances for the team overall since that time, displaying his flexibility and skill on the field.

There were rumors that Emre Can may leave the club during the summer transfer window, generating doubts about his future there. But recent events have been nothing short of astounding, as he has now been given the prestigious position of captaining Borussia Dortmund for the forthcoming campaign.

Along with serving as captain, Marco Reus, Sebastien Haller, and Julian Brandt will serve on Emre Can’s experienced leadership council. The cumulative knowledge and leadership of these players will be crucial in keeping the squad motivated and united.
