Everton vs Manchester United Review
Manchester United made a comeback from being two goals down in the second half to secure a 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park. This result keeps the Toffees unbeaten in their last six Premier League games under David Moyes. Everton, coming into the match in good form, started strongly and applied pressure on United’s defense. The first opportunity went to Beto, who headed the ball directly into the hands of André Onana. Although United managed to create a few threatening crosses, Everton’s persistent pressing proved overwhelming. United struggled to clear a corner, leading to Abdoulaye Doucouré heading the ball into a crowded area where Beto volleyed it into the top of the net, leaving Onana with no chance.
Beto scored his fifth goal in just four Premier League matches, which helped his team gain momentum and extend their lead shortly after the 30-minute mark. Beto delivered a cross that Jack Harrison shot, forcing a remarkable save from Onana, but Doucouré capitalized on the rebound, heading it into the net. United struggled to respond to Everton’s strong first-half performance and were fortunate that Beto didn’t score again when Noussair Mazraoui intervened to clear Doucouré’s cross.
Although United showed slight improvement at the start of the second half, they still struggled to create chances, with Onana having to save Doucouré’s volley. However, with 20 minutes left, United earned a free-kick near the box, which Bruno Fernandes converted by deceiving Jordan Pickford and scoring in the far corner. This shifted the atmosphere in Merseyside, and United pressed for an equalizer within 10 minutes. A failed clearance from a set-piece allowed Manuel Ugarte to volley in from the edge of the area. The equalizer led to a frantic finish, and Pickford had to be at his best to deflect Fernandes’ shot, preventing the comeback from being completed.
Then, in the dying moments of stoppage time, the Toffees were denied a penalty that had initially been awarded after Ashley Young appeared to be fouled by Matthijs de Ligt, resulting in significant disappointment for the home team at the final whistle. However, they continue to show improvement under Moyes, while United have rarely displayed such determination when trailing this season, and their performance in the last 20 minutes will likely give Ruben Amorim reason for optimism.
