FC Chelsea News: Lukaku would be asked if he prefers to return and work under Pochettino
Romelu Lukaku’s future at Chelsea is uncertain as the team is ready to name Mauricio Pochettino as its next permanent head coach. Inter Milan, where Lukaku spent this season on loan, is apparently not interested in retaining him for another year. Due to injuries and a lacklustre World Cup campaign with his country, the Belgian striker has struggled this season at Inter.

The fact that Lukaku had a falling out with former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel during his first season back at the club, which led to him requesting a loan transfer to Inter Milan, complicates his prospective return to Chelsea. Pochettino could think he can work with Lukaku if the striker has the appropriate mentality and willingness to resuscitate his Chelsea career. Chelsea is eager to cut their team and sign only a few high-quality acquisitions this summer.
So how will Chelsea linup under Pochettino?
The goaklkeeping and striker positions are Chelsea’s two main areas of worry this summer, outside from Lukaku. Pochettino could be able to work with Armando Broja, who has struggled to establish himself at Chelsea and has missed this season due to injury. There is a perception that Chelsea’s youthful team is already well prepared for Pochettino because of his track record of bringing out the best in developing talent.
Pochettino uses full-backs frequently, and he will have two of the finest in the Premier League at his disposal in Reece James and Ben Chilwell. Pochettino has a track record of producing successful players in this position, and he encourages his full-backs to press high up the pitch and create lots of width. Given the abundance of strong full-backs on Chelsea’s current roster, this tactical strategy may work well.

Pochettino has always preferred a back four, although in prior seasons, he sometimes used three at the back. N’Golo Kanté may serve as the anchor that he usually employs to provide room for a creative player in Chelsea’s front three. Mason Mount, a talented young Englishman who is a favourite of Pochettino, may occupy the creative role behind the striker. Christopher Nkunku is another player who could benefit greatly when working under the Argentine. Nkunku is set for a summer transfer to Chelsea, with the deal reportedly completed. His qualities and skills will be very crucial for Pochettino.
Conor Gallagher exhibits the energy and work ethic that Pochettino looks for in his midfielders, so the Argentine manager is sure to be impressed with these qualities. However, at least one midfielder is anticipated to depart Chelsea this summer, and Mateo Kovacic, who is allegedly liked by Manchester City, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s futures remain uncertain. Mauricio Pochettino would pay attention to Mykhaylo Mudryk, a player with speed and goal-scoring potential who has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge since his January transfer.

Chelsea’s current roster, which is already well-stocked with excellent players in crucial positions, may be a good fit for Pochettino’s methods and philosophy. Although they haven’t yet had a big influence at the club, young players like Broja and Mudryk may be among the players the new head coach will focus on developing. Chelsea will need to choose a new head coach and reassemble a team that has struggled this season in the coming months.
