FC Manchester City News: Midfielder Bernardo Silva has signed a one-year contract extension with the club, committing to stay until 2026.
The Portuguese international had been linked with moves to other clubs, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Al Hilal, but has ultimately chosen to remain with the Premier League champions.
Silva’s previous contract was set to expire in 2025, but he has now extended his stay for an additional year. The 29-year-old midfielder has been a crucial part of Manchester City’s successes under manager Pep Guardiola, contributing significantly to the team’s achievements.
Silva expressed his excitement about the extension, stating, “Winning the Treble last season was extremely special, and it’s exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion. Success makes you want even more, and this club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning.”
His decision to stay is a boost for Manchester City after losing other key players like captain Ilkay Gundogan and winger Riyad Mahrez this summer. With Kevin De Bruyne sidelined due to injury, retaining a player of Silva’s creativity and technical ability will be crucial for the team’s ambitions.
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Silva’s contribution, saying, “Bernardo was so important in our Treble-winning season, and we are sure he can help deliver even more trophies in the next few years.”
Silva’s versatility, work ethic, and ability to create opportunities from midfield have made him an integral part of Manchester City’s squad. His commitment to the club provides stability and continuity as they continue to compete for domestic, European and international titles under Pep Guardiola’s leadership.
