Inter Milan vs AC Milan Review: Inter Milan Secure Spot in Champions League Final with Victory over AC Milan
Inter Milan have reached the Champions League final for the first time since 2010, after beating their city rivals AC Milan 1-0 in the second leg of their semi-final clash. The Nerazzurri had a comfortable 2-0 lead from the first leg, thanks to goals from Eden Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The match was tense and tight, with both teams creating few clear chances. AC Milan needed to score at least two goals to have any hope of overturning the deficit, but they were frustrated by Inter’s solid defence and goalkeeper Andre Onana. Inter also created chances of their own in the first half, but were denied by some fine saves from Mike Maignan, who kept AC Milan in the game.
In the 2nd half, Inter were content to sit back and counter-attack, relying on the pace and power of their forwards and wing-backs.The breakthrough came in the 74th minute, when Romelu Lukaku set up Lautaro Martinez who slotted the ball past Maignan to send the Inter fans into ecstasy.
It was a cruel blow for AC Milan, who had dominated possession and territory, but lacked the cutting edge to break down Inter’s resistance. AC Milan had no response and barely threatened Inter’s goal. They looked like a team that had run out of steam and ideas.
The final whistle sparked wild celebrations among Inter’s players and fans, who had waited 13 years to return to the biggest stage in European football. Inter will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final, which will be played in Istanbul on 10th June
After a disappointing domestic campaign that has seen them slip out of the top four in Serie A. The Rossoneri will have to watch their neighbours play for glory in Istanbul, while they potentially face another season without Champions League football.
Inter Milan, on the other hand, have been superb under Simone Inzhagi this season, reaching their first Champions League final since 2010. They will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid , who play their second leg on Wednesday night. Inter will fancy their chances against either opponent, as they have shown they can compete with the best in Europe.
