Marseille has officially confirmed the signing of Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr from Watford.
The winger, who previously played for Metz and Rennes, will provide additional options for Marseille’s team. The duration of his contract was not disclosed by the French club, but various media sources suggest that he has agreed to a five-year deal worth approximately €13 million.
Ismaila Sarr will wear the number 23 shirt.
After a successful debut season with Metz in 2016, the player, who was born in Saint-Louis, joined Stade Rennais the following year. He scored 18 goals and provided 16 assists in 77 appearances over two seasons, which caught the attention of Watford in 2019. During his time with Watford, where he most recently played in the Championship, he accumulated 34 goals and 24 assists in 131 appearances.
At the age of 25, Sarr also won the African Cup of Nations in 2022 and has already earned 54 caps for his national team. Marseille has made their second major signing in a few days, having recently acquired Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Chelsea. They have been very active in the summer transfer market.
These two players, who are recognized for their speed, will offer new coach Marcelino more options and are expected to be a good fit in the 4-4-2 formation that the Spanish coach prefers.
The addition of these two attacking players is likely to resolve the uncertainty surrounding the future of Alexis Sanchez, a beloved player at the Velodrome whose contract ended in June and has not shown any interest in renewing it.
