Jordan Henderson, a 33-year-old midfielder from England, has been seen training with the Al-Ettifaq players during their pre-season camp in Europe.
The Saudi team is currently training in Croatia under the guidance of Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard.
Henderson is set to finalize his transfer to Al-Ettifaq on a lucrative deal, earning approximately £700,000 per week. The longstanding leader of Liverpool has been captured on video training alongside his presumed new colleagues.
Liverpool will be paid an initial sum of £12 million for Henderson, who still had two years left on his contract with the club. Before deciding to leave Liverpool, Henderson had a conversation with manager Jurgen Klopp.
He became a part of Liverpool in 2011, became the captain in 2015, and achieved success in winning all available trophies during his 12-year tenure.
Many supporter groups, including Kop Outs, have strongly criticized Henderson’s upcoming move to Saudi Arabia. The Gulf state has faced accusations of ‘sports-washing’ its abysmal human rights record by attracting renowned football players and managers to its domestic league.
