Juventus set to offer Paul Pogba a pay cut as he struggles to justify his €8m salary

Juventus Football Club is reportedly gearing up for crucial contract reconstruction discussions with their star midfielder, Paul Pogba.

The French World Cup-winning sensation made a triumphant return to Turin in the summer of 2022, a move that was greeted with much excitement among the Juventus faithful. However, his homecoming hasn’t been without its challenges, and now, it appears Pogba may be facing a pay cut.

Pogba’s journey in the world of football has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. After his record-breaking transfer to Manchester United in 2016, the midfielder experienced both highs and lows during his time in England. Yet, despite the ups and downs, he remained a hero in the hearts of many fans at the Allianz Stadium.

Since his return to Italy, Paul Pogba has encountered difficulties in maintaining both form and fitness. A series of injury setbacks have curtailed his playing time, limiting him to just 11 appearances in slightly over a year. For Juventus, this has meant little return on their significant investment, with the 30-year-old currently earning an annual salary of €8 million (£7m/$9m).

Reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato indicate that Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli is preparing to engage in discussions with Pogba’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, to address his contract situation. It is rumored that during these negotiations, Pogba may be presented with two options: either accept a pay cut or agree to a revised contract that includes performance-related bonuses, potentially topping up his basic wage to €8 million per year.

Pogba’s second stint with Juventus has been markedly different from his first tenure in Italy. During his earlier years with the club, he notched an impressive 34 goals and helped secure four Serie A titles between 2012 and 2016. However, since rejoining the Bianconeri, his contributions have been more limited, with just one starting appearance in the current campaign.

These contract talks will undoubtedly be crucial not only for Pogba but also for Juventus as they seek to find the right balance between maintaining a competitive squad and managing their financial resources effectively. Whether Pogba agrees to a pay cut or a performance-based arrangement remains to be seen, but the outcome of these discussions will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the future of both the player and the club.
