Juventus vs Inter Review
Juventus staged an exciting late comeback to narrowly defeat Inter Milan 4-3 at the Allianz Stadium, a venue where the Nerazzurri have managed only one win in their last 13 league visits. Having a Derby d’Italia this early in the season can be risky for neutral fans in terms of excitement, but there was no lack of sharpness in the 208th competitive meeting of this historic rivalry, with both teams starting strongly. Although Inter had the upper hand in the early exchanges, the home team took the lead just before the 15-minute mark when Inter’s defense failed to clear a corner, allowing the ball to be played back into the box, where Lloyd Kelly volleyed it in following Bremer’s pullback.
Despite falling behind, Inter kept pressing and equalized around the 30-minute mark when Carlos Augusto found Hakan Çalhanoğlu at the edge of the box, and the Turkish international powerfully struck the ball into the far corner. Both teams remained dangerous as halftime approached, but the Bianconeri went into the break leading 2-1 after Kenan Yıldız produced a moment of brilliance in the 38th minute, receiving the ball from 35 yards out, turning, and unleashing a powerful shot into the net.
After the break, Cristian Chivu’s side appeared stronger, with Inter controlling possession. Çalhanoğlu continued to be Inter’s main threat, and after narrowly missing with a shot, he scored a stunning volley that was a strong candidate for goal of the match. With the ball bouncing around in the box, Piotr Zieliński nodded it towards Çalhanoğlu at the edge of the area, who chested it down before firing an impressive volley past Michele Di Gregorio. Inter completed their comeback in the 76th minute when Marcus Thuram headed in a corner delivered by Federico Dimarco.
As if the rivalry alone wasn’t dramatic enough, Marcus Thuram’s younger brother, Khéphren Thuram, leveled the score for Juve in the 83rd minute with a header from Yıldız’s free kick into the box.
But the excitement didn’t stop there, as Vasilije Adžić added his own contender for goal of the match by blasting a stunning shot from 30 yards out. That goal turned out to be the decisive one in an exhilarating game, giving Juve their third consecutive win, a first hat-trick of victories to start a season since 2018/19, while Chivu’s team has now suffered two losses in a row.
