Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed that Kylian Mbappe has returned to first-team training following “very constructive talks.”
Mbappe had been training separately from the main squad and was put up for sale last month due to a contract standoff over his future with the club.
The French forward’s contract with PSG is set to expire in 2024, but he had the option to extend it by another year, which expired at the end of last month. Despite interest from other clubs, particularly Real Madrid, PSG was determined not to let Mbappe leave for free next summer. Reports have suggested that Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid once his contract with PSG expires.
The decision for Mbappe to return to first-team training comes after discussions between the player and the club. PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi had been firm about not allowing Mbappe to depart for free, and it’s anticipated that an agreement will be reached for Mbappe to sign a one-year contract extension, which would run until 2025. This would potentially enable PSG to sell Mbappe to Real Madrid next summer.
Mbappe has been a key player for PSG since joining in 2017, initially on loan from Monaco before making a permanent move. He has scored 212 goals in 260 games for the club.
This development suggests that Mbappe is likely to stay at PSG for the upcoming season, at least, ending speculation about an imminent move to Real Madrid or other potential destinations.
