Latest Chelsea News: Chelsea were brutally thrashed at Old Trafford and Frank Lampard claims Chelsea needs to rebuild
Frank Lampard, Chelsea’s interim manager, has remarked that, despite massive investment of almost £600 million ($741 million) during the previous two transfer windows, Chelsea needs a rebuild.
The team finds itself on course for a bottom-half finish in the Premier League this season despite the significant investment in new signings including a record transfer. More money, according to Lampard, who won’t be in charge of the team’s restructuring, will be required to solve the team’s problems and advance it to a higher level.
Enzo Fernandez, a World Cup-winning midfielder, was acquired by Chelsea for a record-breaking £106 million ($131 million) following a buyout by the Todd Boehly-led group.
The team hasn’t received the returns it had hoped for from these investments, and its league standing is expected to be unsatisfactory. Lampard said openly that Chelsea has had a challenging year, highlighting the necessity for a rebuild and upgrades to achieve the desired level.
“It’s a bad year for the club. The important thing is you get to the bottom of how it improves. It needs a rebuild, the club will move on in the summer in terms of the squad. Things need to improve to get to the level.” Lampard said.
Lampard, who is acting as Chelsea’s temporary manager throughout the challenging season, won’t be part in this summer’s team restructuring. Mauricio Pochettino is being mentioned as a potential replacement and will be in charge of overseeing the rebuilding process. Lampard recognized that his replacement would require a preseason and some time to thoroughly evaluate the team, implying that it is not his place to make suggestions at this time.
He added: “To come in without a pre-season and assess, it’s probably not my time to give my opinions. It’ll be someone else’s decisions and a pre-season and start and look will be imperative.”
Chelsea still has one game left in the current campaign, a home match against Newcastle who will play in the Champions League. After the season is over, the emphasis will switch to a new recruiting drive to fix the team’s weaknesses and improve their prospects of success moving forward.
