Latest Chelsea news transfer
Chelsea have fired Graham Potter following a humiliating loss to Aston Villa, which dropped the Blues to the bottom half of the table. As Chelsea failed to achieve consistent results under the English manager, Potter was unable to persuade the team that they were on the correct track and making progress.
Links to Julian Nagelsmann began to circulate as soon as word of Potter’s dismissal became public. After Bayern Munich parted ways and hired former CFC manager Thomas Tuchel, the German manger became available. Nagelsmann’s position at Chelsea was already looking appealing, and now that Potter has been fired, Nagelsmann is regarded one of the frontrunners for the job.
Chelsea values Nagelsmann and regards him as one of the top candidates for the position, according to Fabrizio Romano. There are, however, other candidates in the mix. Other candidates being mentioned include Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane, Ruben Amorium, and Luis Enrique.
Nagelsmann has emerged as an early favourite due to his good working rapport with technical director Christopher Vivell at RB Leipzig. According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are adamant about going through an exhaustive process to find Potter’s successor, and will interview at least five applicants before making a final decision.
Chelsea will interview Pochettino, the former Tottenham manager who has been out of employment since being fired by PSG. The Blues will also interview Enrique, who left the Spain national team after the FIFA World Cup and is searching for a new project. The Blues are also hoping to meet with agents of Luciano Spalletti, who is about to lead Napoli to their first Serie A title since 1989-90.
Chelsea will thoroughly evaluate the candidates and conduct due diligence before making a final choice. Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali met Potter before naming him manager. As the club lacked both a technical and a sporting staff, only one more applicant was interviewed before making the decision on Potter.
With sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley on board, Chelsea will go through a rigorous selection process to find a new manager to succeed Potter. Meanwhile, Bruno Saltor will lead the first team as they prepare to play Liverpool on Tuesday. It is unknown whether a new manager will be named before the UEFA Champions League quarter-final match against Real Madrid.
