Latest Liverpool FC News: Alexis Mac Allister’s red card, which he received during the team’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth, has been overturned on appeal.
The Argentina midfielder was initially sent off and suspended for three matches after a challenge on Bournemouth’s Ryan Christie in the 58th minute of the match at Anfield.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had described the decision as “harsh” and the club decided to appeal the suspension. The Football Association’s Independent Regulatory Commission reviewed the incident and deemed it a case of wrongful dismissal. As a result, Mac Allister’s three-match suspension has been rescinded.
The challenge had resulted in a straight red card for Mac Allister, and he would have missed matches against Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Wolverhampton Wanderers had the suspension not been overturned.
Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer, has quickly become a regular starter for the team. He played a key role in Liverpool’s comeback victory over Bournemouth, where they secured their first win of the season after going behind early in the match.
The successful appeal means that Mac Allister’s red card has been rescinded, and he will not serve a suspension. This decision is a relief for Liverpool and their fans, as Mac Allister has been an integral part of the team’s midfield since his arrival.
Mac Allister’s red card was one of several seen in the recent round of Premier League fixtures. Other players who received red cards include Fulham’s Tim Ream, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Nunes, West Ham United’s Nayef Aguerd, and Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu.
