Latest Liverpool FC News: Liverpool is in advanced talks with Jorg Schmadtke to be the club’s next sporting director
Jorg Schmadtke is being courted by Liverpool to become their next sporting director, and they hope to have him on board before the summer transfer window opens. Since Julian Ward announced his desire to resign last November, there has been much conjecture about who may take his place.
Paul Mitchell, who is currently at Monaco, was among the prospects with whom Liverpool had been associated. However, Schmadtke, a well-known personality in German football, is now moving towards the formalities of a contract after receiving a strong recommendation from manager Jurgen Klopp during conversations with club owners Fenway Sports Group.

There had been some rumours that Schmadtke was being hired on a consulting basis; however, this is untrue, and it is anticipated that he will sign a three-year term that will last until June 2026, the same month as Klopp’s contract expires.
Although Klopp’s status at Anfield has never needed to be strengthened, this appointment is a sign of his power within the organisation, and Liverpool can now feel secure knowing they have a seasoned executive in place to complete the transactions necessary to revamp their roster.
Schmadtke, who previously worked for Wolfsburg before quitting in January, will blend in with stalwarts Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter on Liverpool’s coaching staff, and the emphasis this summer will be on signing midfielders.
