Latest on Liverpool FC News: The Reds get ready for a major overhaul this summer as several players are set to depart
Liverpool has announced that Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will depart from the club when their contracts come to an end at the conclusion of the current season. This decision has been made in order to pave the way for a reconstruction of the team during the upcoming off-season.
The four players were members of the team that achieved victory in the Champions League tournament in 2019 and contributed to the club’s success in obtaining their initial English league championship in three decades during the 2019/20 season.
“All four players will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution they have made,” Liverpool said in a statement.
“The quartet will each embark on new chapters in their careers following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, having helped the Reds lift a host of the game’s biggest honours during their spells at Anfield.
“We wish Roberto, Naby, James, Alex and their families the very best for the future.”

Firmino, who became a Liverpool player in 2015, formed a successful attacking trio with Salah and Mane under the guidance of manager Jurgen Klopp. He has become a fan favorite after scoring 80 goals in 254 league games. Unfortunately, he has been out of action since mid-April due to a muscle injury and is working hard to recover in time for the team’s emotional farewell match against Aston Villa on Saturday, which will be their final game at Anfield this season.
Milner, who also joined in 2015 from Manchester City, has been a loyal player for the club, making 330 appearances. However, his playing time has decreased in recent seasons, with Klopp often using him as a substitute.
Keita, who was signed from RB Leipzig for over 50 million pounds in 2018, has scored 11 goals in 129 games for Liverpool. Unfortunately, he has only played 12 times this season due to injury problems.
This season, Oxlade-Chamberlain has faced difficulties in getting enough opportunities to play, having only made 13 appearances. He became a member of the team in 2017 after transferring from Arsenal and has participated in 146 matches for the club, scoring a total of 18 goals.
Liverpool currently hold the fifth position in the rankings with a total of 65 points, trailing behind Manchester United who are in fourth place by just one point and have an extra game to play. Their final match of the season will be against Southampton on May 28th, following their game against Villa.
