Latest on Manchester United News: United will go head-to-head with City in the FA Cup final
Raphael Varane stated that they are not intimidated by Erling Haaland before their FA Cup final match against Manchester City. However, he recognized that their opponents are dangerous in all parts of the field.
On Saturday, United will aim to halt the Premier League champions’ pursuit of a second trophy this season. Pep Guardiola’s team is seeking a rare treble, with a Champions League final against Inter Milan scheduled for June 10.
In 1999, United became the sole team to win the English title, FA Cup, and Champions League in a single season.
In his first season in England, Haaland managed to score 52 goals and was awarded the Premier League Golden Boot for his record-breaking 36 goals. He also received several Player of the Year awards.
Varane stated that Manchester City had other strengths besides their Norwegian striker.
“Fear? No way…Why?” he told The Telegraph. “Yes, he is a very good player, we all know that. But the danger from City is everywhere, they are very complete.”
Varane emphasized the importance of neutralizing Kevin De Bruyne, the playmaker, in order to prevent Haaland from succeeding. De Bruyne provided 16 assists during the league season, with half of them being for Haaland.
“They can score from set-plays, from a possession game and from a transition game. As a defender, the connection (Haaland has) especially with De Bruyne – that kind of pass is complicated to defend, so we try to cut that connection.”
“We know we can beat them. We have to be consistent for 90 minutes because we know that everything can change in a few seconds.”
Erik ten Hag’s team aims to finish their season strongly after winning the League Cup. Varane, who had a successful decade at Real Madrid, stated that Manchester United is regaining a winning mindset.
“We have to be positive, we’re in a good way. But the most important thing is to believe.”
